AbstractIt is well known that unfunded social security reduced fertility and more likely, depresses savings. Does it also depress output growth? This paper addresses the question in a framework of both endogenous fertility and growth. it is found that social security may induce higher growth if the fertility effect dominates the savings effect. © 1995.
