AbstractThe following factors are discussed: the effects of the Earth's rotation on the development of longitudinal and latitudinal stresses in crustal rocks; the potential relationship between plate tectonics, Chandler wobble, changes in speed of rotation, and earthquakes; and continental glaciation (and erosion) as a causative mechanism for the buildup of residual stresses.
