AbstractThe dependence of growth direction of ZnSe nanowires (NWs) on the diameter of NWs based on the estimation of the surfaces and interface energies of ZnSe NWs was examined. The as-grown ZnSe NWs were directly observed in the reflection mode by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) without any specimen treatment. The ultrathin ZnSe grew mainly along two directions inclined approximately ∓35degree of the normal substrate surface. The growth direction was confirmed by electron microdiffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images taken from individual ZnSe NWs.
