Abstract | This paper presents the application of a new theoretical model on the interaction of organizational culture and organizational structure of a public health care organization. The theoretical model is developed from a "People-Behaviour-Performance-Organizational Structure-People" loop where culture affects the organizational structure. Through another "Goals-Organizational Structure-Output-Organizational Culture-Gaols" loop, the structure of an organization modifies the organizational culture. The directional relationship between organizational culture and organizational structure is further explained by Information Processing Theory where if the information processing requirement of an organization dominated by a specific culture is fitting the information-processing capacity of a particular structure of the organization, the effectiveness of the organization will be strengthened. Through the application of this model, the performance a public health care organization in Hong Kong is evaluated and presented in the paper. © RICS. |
