AbstractThis essay discusses several methodological challenges and possible solutions in cross-linguistic research on the relation between language and cognition. Some are rather common concerns in cross-linguistic research; others are specific to research on language processing in Chinese. This essay will focus on four basic ingredients of research: hypotheses, stimulus materials, evaluation of previous findings, and subject populations. © 1992.
