Abstract | A study was conducted the isolation and structural characterization of a trinuclear platinum(II) terpyridyl complex in which three discrete unsupported [Pt(trpy)] fragments are linked by a 'naked' C≡C2- alkynyl rod in σ- and π-coordination modes. The study also focused on investigating and explaining the photophysical and fluxional behavior and correlated with theoretical calculations. It was found that the three platinum(II) ions are coplanar with isosceles-triangle geometry, while the C≡C2- rod unit lies in the plane, with one carbon above and another below it. The three trinuclear platinum(II) terpyridyl planes were twisted with the dihedral angle between the σ- and π-coordinated trinuclear platinum(II) terpyridyl planes. |
