AbstractThe combination of Chloramine-M (CH3SO2NClNa), benzaldehyde and BTEAC epoxidized olefins with good yield. While the novel reaction was electrophilic, epoxidation of cis-olefins such as cis-β-methylstyrene, cis-stilbene, and 4-cis-octene yielded trans-epoxides as major products. Several experiments were performed to study the reaction mechanism. Cis-N-sulfonyl-oxaziridine A was suggested as a reactive intermediate in this epoxidation reaction.
