AbstractSome ruthenium(III) complexes of the type trans-[Ru(L)X2]+ with four different saturated macrocyclic quadridentate secondary amines [L = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (cyclam), X2 = (Cl)Br, I2, (NCS)2, and (CH3COO)2; L = 1,4,8,12-tetraazacyclopentadecane ([15]aneN4), C-meso- and C-rac-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (teta and tetb respectively), X2 = Cl2 and Br2] have been prepared and characterized. They are all monomeric, low-spin species with a trans configuration. The electronic and infrared absorption spectra of these complexes are discussed. © 1981 American Chemical Society.
