AbstractINTRODUCTION: Capacitated spermatozoa initiate fertilization by binding to the carbohydrate sequences on the zona pellucida (ZP). Defective spermatozoa-ZP binding leads to subfertility, and is an important cause of reduced fertilization in assisted reproduction.
