AbstractIn this paper, the properties of a second order IIR filter structure will be explored. A simple procedure is given to design the filter parameters such that is can be used as a tunable frequency response filter, a notch filter or as a line enhancer with specific characteristics. In the case of adaptive applications, the asymptotic properties of the filter is studied by evaluating the Cramer Rao Lower Bound for the filter parameter where the signal consists of a sinusoid in noise. An application of the filter to retrieve the roll eccentricity signal in a steel rolling mill will also be given.
