Abstract | Little attention has been devoted to assessing the impact of landslides upon land degradation and denudation in Hong Kong. However, some estimates of at-a-point erosion are presented. The landslides which occurred in the Lam Tsuen valley in May 1989 are used to illustrate how they can influence sediment production. Where subsequent erosion of landslide sites by fluvial action generates sediment, monitoring of sediment in rivers may be the only way of quantifying their impact upon erosion. The need to consider scale in instrumented basin studies is discussed. -from Author |
