AbstractRecently a doubly periodic solution of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation was deduced by summing over component solitons. The same solution was derived directly by the Hirota bilinear method. This alternate route enables one to obtain a new solution. Such a mechanism can also be applied to wavepacket dynamics, e.g., the Davey-Stewartson equation. © 1994 American Institute of Physics.
