AbstractA procedure is proposed to solve stress-strain problems by implementing the conditions of stress compatibility on the displacement functions chosen for a region of interest, using the least squares method. The procedure is illustrated by determining the mechanical properties of a three-dimensional fiber-reinforced composite. A comparison is made between the proposed and the conventional finite element methods for the elastic constants obtained from two different types of material. The results show that the proposed method is reliable and accurate. © 1993.
