AbstractThe conventional method for determining the peak hot spot stress of a tubular joint subjected to a practical loading condition, is to sum the products of the nominal stresses due to these simple load types and the corresponding stress concentration factors. This paper proposes an approach for verifying, and modifying if necessary, the conventional method. The weakness of the conventional method is clearly illustrated.
