AbstractIt has been a common industrial practice to design lifting padeyes for offshore structures based on some conservative assumptions and formulae in order to reduce design time and cost. Thus most of the padeyes are over-designed and therefore more costly to fabricate. The finite element technique has been employed to study some two-dimensional padeye models. The results obtained are compared with a three-dimensional finite element solution to enable the selection of a two-dimensional model which can best be used for practical designs. © 1990.
