Abstract | Experimental results for the frictional pressure drop in a square channel with longitudinal grooves are presented. It is found that the frictional pressure drop behaviour is dependent on the characteristic dimensions of these grooves. In the turbulent flow region, the pressure drops are greater than those for an equivalent smooth channel and may be predicted using the "law of the wall". In some cases, it is observed that there is a delay in the transition from laminar to turbulent flow such as that in the range where turbulent flow is normally expected, a reduction in drag is observed. |
