AbstractOne-layer based evolutionary product customization design method was presented to satisfy individual need for design. Based on product platform, many design candidates were produced by making use of inheritance, mutation, as well as crossover of evolution technology. Product structure and parameter were expressed in an individual unit. Node row was saved in the individual structure of design, and the corresponding parameters of selected modules were saved in parameter structure of design. Both the structure and parameter were achieved in the evolutionary design at same time. Through evaluation of fitness function, improved design scheme would satisfy customization needs. A case study on the worm gear reducer was provided to illustrate the framework and the prototype system.
