AbstractA CD900-like system using Gold codes and nonadaptive diversity yielded asymptotic average probability of symbol error P//a of 6 multiplied by 10** minus **3, 6 multiplied by 10** minus **4, 10** minus **3 and 9 multiplied by 10 ** minus **3, for diversity order 1, 2, 3 and 5, respectively. An adaptive diversity scheme reduced P//a to 6 multiplied by 10** minus **5. Walsh codes had a minimum P//a of 4 multiplied by 10** minus **2.
