AbstractA clinical study was conducted to assess the fit of cobalt-chromium clasps on newly inserted dentures, and on dentures which had been worn for periods of 6, 12 and 24 months. Special gauges were designed and constructed, and were used to measure the gaps between clasps and teeth in the mouths of patients who had had removable partial dentures fitted at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Hong Kong. Many gaps were detected at the time of insertion in relation to clasps previously thought to be of acceptable fit. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out with a view to identifying any effects on the mean gap between clasp and tooth, related to time or design factors. No time-dependent effect was revealed in this study, except when other factors supervened. © 1988.
