AbstractBrewery effluent with high organic content was treated anaerobically in a 1.17 m3 reactor over five months. At 26°C, and with a HRT of 13.3 hrs and a loading rate of 4.9 kg COD/m3d, the process reduced over 89% of COD and 92% of BOD5 from the brewery effluent; both reductions could be further improved by more effective removal of suspended solids. © 1989 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
