| Abstract | Direct shear tests on two different kinds of sand were conducted by the newly developed large direct shear apparatus designed for field and laboratory test. On basis of the illustration on direct shear characteristics of sands, the test data of sands from the large direct shear tests are analyzed in different views. The analytical results show that the test data from the large direct shear apparatus are consistent with high reliability; and it is shown that the basic shear capability of the large direct shear apparatus is better. The large direct shear apparatus can be applied to other corresponding geo-material investigations. |
