Abstract | A new coordinate transformation function is presented, with the help of which a cylindrical shell of arbitrary cross-section can be mapped approximately into a circular cylindrical shell. Using this method, the transient response of a non-circular cylindrical shell subjected to a shock wave is obtained by the finite strip method. The versatility and accuracy of the method are amply demonstrated through a number of numerical examples. © 1991. |
