AbstractBiji 筆記 is a sort of miscellany containing a broad array of subjects included in various descriptions such as anecdotes, notes, criticism and tales. The miscellaneous contents of biji have provided plentiful and valuable resources for Chinese studies. This paper gives a lexical analysis on certain reduplicative words used in the representative biji written in the Tang dynasty (618-907). On one hand, the derivation and meanings of those lexical items are examined and referred to lexicons, and on the other, a comprehensive review on the functions and significance of the Tang biji in lexical studies is to be made.
