Abstract | BACKGROUND: 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), a potent vasoactive neurotransmitter, after released is terminated at the nerve terminals mainly via enzymatic metabolism such as monoamine oxidases (MAOs), resulted in the generation of different metabolites (e.g. 5-HIAA, 5-HTOL and H2O2).
