AbstractIn “The Post-Modern Opening of the ‘68 Generation and the Return of an Old God without Superstition and Metaphysics” I argue that in the post Cold War World postmodernism has arrived at a surprising place: religion. Beginning from a set of concerns that had nothing to do with religion the post-modernist dismantling of all the metaphysical residues that were left after the death of a metaphysical God have found themselves confronting issues of their tradition that have had their most profound expressions in theology and religion. This paper traces this paradoxical development, while making the further point that where postmodernists have arrived is where a small circle of German thinkers, including Franz Rosenzweig and Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy, were beginning from at the end of the First World War.
