AbstractIntegration of wind resources into the operation of electric grid and to ensure their fullest utilization is the major challenge facing the industry today. Because of its uncertainty, intermittency and variability, wind generation fundamentally change the characteristics of power system operation and challenges the conventional operational philosophy. Conventional approaches to system reserve, voltage stability, frequency stability, and so on, have to be revisited, when the percentage of wind generation becomes significant. In this paper, we list some general issues of wind integration that must be addressed and discuss the particular problem of wind forecast, which is considered one of the most urgent problems facing us today. © 2011 IFAC.
