AbstractIn this study, in vivo MEMRI was introduced to investigate cellular alteration and manganese-induced signal intensity changes after neonatal monocular enucleation. With MEMRI, impaired superior colliculi with high spatial resolution revealing the laminar structure and enhancement of monocular area of primary visual cortex can be observed after neonatal monocular enucleation noninvasively. Such MEMRI approach may be useful in investigation of neural plasticity and the adaptive and compensatory modifications within the brain following neonatal monocular enucleation.
