AbstractThis research critically reviewed the present status of construction innovation and identified that perception of risk and lack of management systems are major barriers to innovation, while relationship management is the major driver. It investigated how and to what extent relationship management can facilitate innovation and its effective diffusion by encouraging collaborative and cooperative relationships amongst participants in the organisational project environment which in turn leads to better sharing of risk, competence development and subsequently to a sustainable supply chain. The discussion section provides guidance for construction firms in their development of successful innovation strategies.
