AbstractThe mechanical testing procedures were analyzed and testing methods were developed for soft contact lenses. It was found that contact lenses of different formulations showed different curves and therefore different properties. It was also found that the tear cracks propagated at very loads in lens specimens displayed three stages of crack propagation. The testing technology has also successfully differentiated a number of new lens formulations, and as such can provide useful design information.
