Abstract | Digital image processing techniques are applied to study an advected line thermal. Analysis of the video records of the dyed thermal shows that there exists an initial linear spreading phase before the asymptotic two-third power law trajectory is reached. The vertical width varies linearly with the elevation above source for both stages. The spreading rate of the advected thermal is found to be approximately the same as that of an advected puff. |
