Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis

Nicanor Guinto's PhD project is concerned with the way Filipino domestic workers in Hong Kong use sociolinguistic resources to negotiate their position across the centre-periphery spaces of transnational labour migration. He is also interested in the area of semiotic landscapes with a special focus on commodification of languages.
