Biography

Karl Pang is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Urological Surgery, Department of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the Division of Surgery & Interventional Science, University College London (UCL) and Department of Oncology and Metabolism, University of Sheffield, UK.

Karl graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2009 and graduated from King's College London with a Clinical BSc in Immunobiology in 2007. He then undertook Academic Foundation training in Birmingham and Oxford University Hospitals (2009-2011) and entered Academic Specialty training in Urological Surgery in the Yorkshire deanery (2011-2022). The hospitals he trained in included Sheffield and Leeds Teaching Hospitals. As part of his Academic Specialty training, he obtained a MSc in Clinical Research (2014) and a laboratory-based PhD in Prostate Cancer Epigenetics (2018) from the University of Sheffield, supervised by Professor James Catto. A component of his PhD was conducted at the University of Chicago. His PhD was funded by the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and The Urology Foundation (TUF), UK (~£150,000). Following completion of his specialty training, he undertook a one-year clinical fellowship in Andrology at The University College London Hospitals with Professor Asif Muneer and Dr Hussain Alnajjar. He also obtained £50,000 funding from TUF to conduct research in Penile Cancer Epigenetics at UCL. He broadened his training by undertaking a 6-week fellowship at the OLV Hospital and ORSI Academy Centre (Aalst, Belgium) in Robotic Urological Surgery with Professor Alexandre Mottrie. Karl is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng) and European Board of Urology.
