Dr Lo, Alex Yu Hong 盧宇航
Alex Lo is an award-winning political economist and human geographer. He is recipient of the prestigious World Social Science Fellowship, Pete Hay Prize, Li Ka Shing Prize, Dr. Stephen S.F. Hui Prizes, and Ada and Arthur Hill Prize. He was an invited review panel member for the Natural Environment Research Council (UK), invited speaker at the National University of Singapore, and member of International Advisory Board for the International Conference on Regional Development. He has been an editorial board member for Environmental Values (UK, ISI-indexed journal) and the Chinese Journal of Urban and Environmental Studies since 2014.
Lo is the principle investigator of a number of externally funded projects. He is commissioned by the Hong Kong Government to assess the impacts of a flagship funding programme known as 'Environment and Conservation Fund', and involved in a collaborative applied research project funded by Australia’s National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility. He also led several other research projects on climate change governance and politics that were supported by the UK’s Regional Studies Association and Australia’s Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
Lo is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD from the Australian National University in 2011, followed by a permanent lectureship at the Griffith University in Australia, a position he held until 2015. Previously, he held a research appointment at Vienna, Australia, and coordinated environmental education projects for the Hong Kong Government.
Lo’s research focuses on the public and political response to environmental change and the political economy of sustainability. He is the author of Carbon Trading in China (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and the lead author of more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. Most of these articles are published by highly ranked journals, including Global Environmental Change, Climatic Change, Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Nature Climate Change, Global Environmental Politics, Landscape and Urban Planning, Land Use Policy, Ecological Economics, Energy Policy, Applied Geography, and Environmental Politics.
