Dr. Cheng is a researcher specialising in media studies and mental health promotion. She was a culture journalist at Southern Weekend (南方週末) before obtaining her PhD in social work and social administration. Her current research interests include media effects on suicide and mental health, suicide communication, and social determinants of mental well-being. She is a member of the Media Task Force of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). At the CSRP, she is responsible for media engagement, and utilising new media technologies for suicide prevention and research. She also provides support for the centre’s mental health promotion projects. She publishes in peer-reviewed journals such as The Lancet, BMJ, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and Journal of Affective Disorders, as well as local newspapers for knowledge exchange.
