Biography

My research interests cover the development and application of epidemiological and statistical methods required for assessing the environment and health problems. They are mainly focused on health risks of air pollution, but also include the impacts of weather and climate change on health. Specific methodological research includes distributed lag effects of time series model, and design of case crossover studies in air pollution and health. Current substantive research topics of interest, on which I work in collaboration with colleagues in the School of Public Health, focus on predicting particulates matter based on aerosol optical depth (AOD), spatio-temporal modelling of  particulates matter in Hong Kong, and effects of thermal stress on health risks.  I am also interested in parallel distributed computing, especially in R environment and their application to computationally intensive estimators in time series models.  My early work has been related to analysis of cancer data, in particular for breast cancer where I used age period cohort model to quantify the incidence in Hong Kong.
