Professor Mamoulis, Nikolaos 孟每思
Nikos Mamoulis received a diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics in 1995 from the University of Patras, Greece, and a PhD in Computer Science in 2000 from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Currently, he is a professor at the Department of Computer Science, The University of Hong Kong, which he joined in 2001. In the past, he has worked as a research and development engineer at the Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece and as a post-doctoral researcher at the Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI), the Netherlands.
During his PhD thesis, Prof. Mamoulis has worked on the development of a prototype spatial query execution engine where spatial operators were combined using a query optimizer to execute complex queries, like multiway spatial joins. He has also designed novel binary and n-ary join operators. Other topics he has worked on include constraint satisfaction search algorithms for binary and non-binary problems, similarity search in high dimensional spaces, on-line analytical processing, data mining, object-oriented and semi-structured data management, spatio-temporal data management, query processing over streams, data summarization, security and privacy preservation in databases, sensor networks, and uncertain data management.
Prof. Mamoulis has been a program committee member of over 80 international conferences and workshops, including SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, KDD, and ICDM. He co-organized several conferences and workshops, including SSTDM06, SSDBM08, DBRank09, SSTD09, and ICDE 2010 PhD Workshop. He is an editorial board member of Geoinformatica (Springer) and an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Data and Knowledge Engineering and the VLDB Journal.
