Objectives
The Hong Kong Bauhinia, Bauhinia blakeana, is a valuable ornamental but is generally sterile and does not set seed. A tissue culture system for propagation is being developed for Bauhinia blakeana and other bauhinias which will have the potential to generate new ornamental hybrids. The project will be used to advance the understanding of the modified floral phenology observed in Bauhinia blakeana compared with other bauhinias.
