To understand the ownership and contractual structure adopted for specific Foreign Invested Enterprises [FIEs] in the context of the economic configuration of foreign and host-country parties involved, and their respective strategic objectives; to assess what particular forms of structure and management control are more conducive to international business ventures being successful in the People's Republic of China. The outcome of this work will be an improved understanding of how more suitable forms of business structure can lead to a better use of such a scarce resource as foreign investment funds and increase the chances of success for FIEs in the People's Republic of China. The study will, in addition, form the basis for future research designed to track the contribution of foreign investment in modernising some management practices in China and will also provide much-needed case studies on PRC enterprises with foreign investment for use in teaching.
