Objectives
To determine the course and outcome of schizophrenia over a long period of time (25 years); identify predictors of outcome; contribute to the development of diagnostic and classificatory systems for psychotic disorders; provide reliable data for cross-cultural comparison; develop and further refine valid and reliable instruments for the assessment of cross-cultural differences in the course and outcome of schizophrenia and changes in symptoms and levels of disability over time; obtain reliable pointers for promotion of better rehabilitation and treatment programmes for schizophrenia.
