Objectives
To establish transgenic technology by introducing immunoglobulin genes that encode for phosphorylcholine-specific antibodies of the T15 idiotype into CBA/N mice which naturally lack these antibodies; to characterise the transgenic animals by (a) to study the integration, expression and inheritance of the introduced genes in these animals; (b) to determine whether the transgene-coded antibodies in the reconstituted animals are protective against challege with Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus), including a comparative study of the efficiencies of the different classes (isotypes) of these antibodies in this role.
