To define the overall prevalence rate of Helicobacter pylori in a cohort of 2,434 subjects from Changle, Fujian; to evaluate if cytotoxin-producing Helicobacter pylori strains are related to gastric canacer; to assess if the gastric juice nitrosamine, the putative carcinogen, and the tumour associated antigens (tumour markers) are associated with gastric cancer / precancerous conditions; to isolate any dietary, lifestyle or other factors that may impose higher gastric cancer risk in this cohort of subjects.
