This is an on-going project of research on the history and development of libraries in Hong Kong since the 1840's. Data collected thus far have been used in librarianship and information science courses sponsored by the School of Professional and Continuing Education and the Hong Kong Library Association, for presentation at seminars as well as for publication in different journals. Continuous effort will be given to (a) updating the directory periodically so as to provide a true picture of the current scene of library and information agencies; (b) recording and documenting the major events and happenings in the local library and information agencies circle; and (c) analysing any factors, social, economic, political or otherwise, that may affect libraries, librarianship and drawing up a strategic plan towards future development in these fields in Hong Kong.
