Objectives
Elderly attempted suicide is a surprisingly common phenomenon in our society. In a recent study, we reported a second peak in parasuicide rate in later life which is not observed in most western studies. In order to investigate this unusual phenomenon in greater detail and to discover factors that may have a preventive value, a well conducted prospective study is necessary.
