Hypercarbia and circulatory overload in treated and untreated SHR rats under halothane anaesthesia

To ascertain the ability of the spontaneously hypertensive rat to compensate for hypercarbia or fluid overload, and to determine whether treatment with anti-hypertensive medication improves or degrades that compensation. This animal is widely regarded as a relevant model for the investigation of responses to pathophysiological challenges which cannot be ethically studied in humans.
