Objectives
1) To investigate the fabrication of cell-laden hydrogel fibers for mesenchymal stem cells and growth factor-encapsulated nanofibrous scaffolds (with nonwoven or aligned-fiber architectures); 2) To investigate a new electrospinning technology for efficiently forming advanced cell-scaffold constructs with designed 3D spatial cell-scaffold organization for the regeneration of tissues such as articular cartilage, tendon and ligament; 3) To characterize and evaluate cell-laden hydrogel fibers, growth factor-encapsulated scaffolds and advanced cell-scaffold constructs for their structure and properties (including biological properties) and to study interplays between cells, growth factors and scaffolds.
