Objectives
Many visually pleasing shapes and artworks can be created by 3D wire sculpturing;however, the process requires highly cultivated creativity and nurtured artistic appreciation. Hence, 3D wire sculpture is not accessible by most people because of its requirements on specialized skills and therefore only well-trained artists and designers can produce high-quality 3D wire sculptures. Even with the availability of commodity 3D drawing pens, novices or amateurs find it hard to fully enjoy the process of creating 3D wire sculptures with desired outcome because of their lack of ability in spatial visualization. This project aims to develop an interactive 3D wire sculpture system that integrates innovative augmented reality technology and novel research in 3D shape processing. The system provides a step-by-step stereoscopic visual guidance to the user in an interactive augmented reality environment for creating a 3D wire sculpture using a 3D drawing pen. Technologies to be integrated includes: shape analysis, wire model generation, augmented reality. The application of this system will lower the barrier for ordinary users to enjoy the process as well as the outcome of creating 3D wire sculptures.
