Objectives
1) To determine whether EM students are aware of the orthographic legality of Traditional Chinese characters, and examine the effects of exposure frequency of characters and components in everyday use with reference to EM students’ development of orthographic sensitivity. 2) To assess the impact of structural complexity of characters with regard to character identification. 3) To assess the length of time spent studying CSL in formal educational setting necessary for developing orthographic sensitivity amongst EM students with limited input on orthographic analogies. 4) To measure the variation between ethnic groups and the length of time spent studying CSL in terms of orthographic sensitivity. 5) To examine whether there are any within group and between group differences in terms of orthographic knowledge amongst EM students.
