Objectives
1) Develop a simple and safe laboratory apparatus to fabricate the rock-like solids with micro-fluid inclusions at high compressive stresses; 2) Carry out a systematic test programme to design, fabricate and test the rock-like solids so that they can have micro-fluid inclusions with high pressures and show the abnormally delayed deformation and/or fracture phenomenon; 3) Use the micro-fluid inclusion hypothesis to describe and explain the physical and mechanical properties and behaviour of the rock-like solids; 4) Benchmarking the theoretical and experimental results with current rock engineering practice and figure out the right and effective measures for excavation and tunnelling in rocks.
