Objectives
1) Conduct preliminary user study to observe how people draw, such as the use of repetitive implements like stipples, brushes, and hatches in a single frame as well as recurring objects across multiple animation frames; 2) Implement a prototype painting system that silently records user workflows in the background while they draw, and examine the recorded data to understand their characteristics; 3) Design analysis algorithms that can decompose painting workflows into high-level contexts and controls as well as low-level repetitions and details. 4) Design synthesis algorithms that can generate low level repetitions and details over user-produced high level contexts and controls; 5) Devise a predictive user interface and interaction mechanisms upon the aforementioned analysis and synthesis methods to build effective painting systems; 6) Perform a formative user study on the usability of the proposed UI design and implementation, and iterate the design cycles for further improvements; 7) Investigate the combination of workflows with various data computation methods and the applications in single-frame drawing, multiple-frame animation, and other related forms of content creation.
