AbstractThrough the guidance of Structures Design Manual for Highways and Railways (SDMHR), bridge design in Hong Kong used to be carried out to British Standards. The emergence of SDMHR 2013 has brought about substantial changes to bridge design methodology as it now makes reference to the Eurocodes. In particular, the philosophy and requirements of seismic design of bridges have been upgraded. This seminar gives an over-view of the impact on design practice brought about by the introduction of SDMHR 2013 as well as the challenges ahead.
